Out with the Old, In with the New

It was only a matter of time, but yeah, I just got a new companion. His name is Elder Daw, he's from everywhere in the world because his dad is in the air force, he's been out for about 20 months and he and I get along pretty dang well. We have a similar humor style, a lot of laughs, similar stories from our past, really not much to complain about here. He knows how to solve rubik's cubes so therefore I now know how to solve rubik's cubes because I asked him day one. I look forward to working with the man, seems like I could learn a lot from him since he's had much experience and is quite smart to begin with. Let's see what more work we can get done here in the sacred land of Foley. Oh, I didn't mention that. I stayed in my area so that's 5 months here. Guess the mission president likes me here for some reason.
Our mission now does transfers every 2 weeks to accommodate for the huge amount of missionaries that are being reassigned in the world so we did just have transfers again yesterday. No surprise there, I'm staying with Elder Daw because I just met him. This new routine definitely keeps us on edge because we aren't sure if we are gonna stay in our areas or not in 2 weeks. Strikes a bit of fear because transfers within themselves is already stressful as is but now we have 3 of them in the time we usually have 1.
Not only did I get a new comp, but so did the Spanish Elders we usually quarantine up with. Elder Bobadilla is now with Elder Moore and I like the dude a lot. He's a very competitive basketball player. I like to think that I am pretty good I guess but I found myself this P-day being very humbled after losing quite a few games to him. He won the state championship for his high school and he was the main leader for that so he definitely gives me some competition. In trying to learn as much as I can from because I love basketball. Oh, and Elder Moore was actually a reassigned missionary after serving in Puerto Rico for 14 months so he's got some experience which I can learn from as well.
I heard that my old comp, Elder Peterson, just broke his foot yesterday so that's a kick in the teeth. It was tripping over a little rug that was bunched up out of all things. Now he's on crutches with a boot on, very unfortunate. Doesn't seem like he'll go home for recovery but he doesn't really know the answer to that just quite yet.
Yeah I don't really have much else to write about. I mean, we've had a about 3 lessons this past 2 weeks and 3 or 4 Come, Follow Me readings with people so that's dope. Our main strategy right now is just calling every member in the word to introduce Elder Daw to them and then asking them if they've been doing Come, Follow Me consistently as a family. Sometimes we also ask if they'll let us teach them or tell scripture stories for good practice. Other than all of this, a lot chess, cards games, learning piano, watching approved Disney movies and staring at my hand. Oh and studying up the wazoo, makes my head hurt reading prophetic word so often.

Well, I'm gonna go take some ibuprofen, til next email guys.

Transferrrrssss...

We had transfers this week and now it's time for some change. I'm staying in the beautiful land of Foley, but this time with a new companion: Elder Daw. I don't know a lip about the dude, but that's what the whole transfer will be for, right? I haven't met him yet, he'll drive down to Foley tomorrow with Elder Bobadilla's new companion so I'll see him then. That's 3 whole transfers with Elder Peterson and it's been a whole lotta fun. He's hilarious and goofy as heck. Doesn't care what people say about him, he is 100% his full self. Super knowledgable about the gospel, I've always found comfort in that because I had no clue about really anything about the church I was raised in at the beginning of my mission. Guess that's what you get for skipping Sunday School half the time.

Woops. Sorry mom.

I love Elder Peterson, he's taught me so much, but I feel like I've reached a learning end with him and now I'm just ready for something new. All I know is that Elder Daw has been out for about a year and a half so he has a lot of experience under his belt. I'm so ready for what he can teach me with a resume like that. Anyway... what else. Uhhh, oh yeah. I've mentioned before that our mission does devotionals every Tuesday-Friday through Zoom, yeah? Well they're fantastic and kinda scary. They pick a couple missionaries beforehand to prepare a 5-10 minute spiritual thought and then, during the Zoom meeting, they also pick a missionary to do a story-time of a story in the BoM or New Testament. That's right on the spot, talk about fricken spontaneous. So yeah, we need to be on our toes otherwise that's public embarrassment in front of the entire mission. Yikes. 😳
I've been studying a lot and a bit of my study time is put towards reading "Jesus The Christ" and that book makes my head hurt. It's a great book, don't get me wrong, amazing actually, but who ever wrote the dang book uses a lot of big boy words. The dictionary app on my phone has become my best friend ever since I started reading this book and my vocab is for sure expanding. So if you tell me your secret superpower is that you can talk to extinct animals and I say it's superflous; I think it's completely useless.

Anyway, I'll let you know how the new comp goes. Let's hope for the best, yeah?
Love y'all,
